I have logged over 1000 hours of tutoring math, physics, and computer science to students of all ages since moving back to northern VA in 2014. It's deeply rewarding to me when I can start with a frustrated student and work with them to nurture a passion and mastery of science and mathematics. My goal with every student is for them to become confident, self-sufficient problem solvers. During lessons I allow the student to be in the driver's seat -- they walk me through their solution, and I provide positive guidance and hints if needed. When learning a new topic, I pique their curiosity with a problem from the new material before explaining the nuts and bolts. In my experience, this approach gets students re-engaged with learning, and is a welcome break from the force-feeding approach they're too often used to. My typical student is one who is/was gifted in math/science at some point, but maybe got off track at some point. Or, maybe they're doing well already and want to excel further. I can help plot out a learning plan if you don't already have one, or I'm happy to use whatever textbook works for you.

In our free time, my wife and I exercise together, and maintain a small vegetable garden. I'm also a pretty avid pianist and singer, but haven't had as much time to practice lately. My graduate specialty was in fluid dynamics and electrochemical computer simulations applied to fuel cells. I'm also interested in trebuchets, and physics applications in biology. Professionally, I'm working at a small data-science company writing software and creating algorithms.
